Orlando, FL (November 1, 2012)/prnewswierd/ — Sony Pictures Entertainment, a division of Sony Corporation of America, and Universal Orlando Resort, a Comcast property, today announced a new blockbuster attraction for the Universal Studios Florida theme park at the Universal Orlando Resort in Orlando, Florida, based on the Sony Pictures blockbuster film “2012.”
Upon entering the queue for 2012: The Live Movie Experience, guests will pass actual prop vehicles used in the film, including John Cusack’s limousine, the plane flown by Tom McCarthy, and Woody Harrelson’s RV. Once inside the show building, doors will be sealed shut and Danny Glover, reprising his role as President Thomas Wilson, will appear on screens warning guests of impending doom. Following that, the attraction intensifies into full terror as the monitors go dark and guests are surrounded by complete darkness, awaiting their fate.
“Universal Creative has developed a brand new patent-pending technology just for this attraction,” says Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative, the themed design arm of Universal Studios Theme Parks. “Universal NaturEffects TM uses a natural algorithm which randomly determines what kind of disaster will destroy our guests. Be it tornado, tsunami, hurricane, earthquake, or volcano – there’s absolutely no telling what might happen during this once in a lifetime experience.”
Fans of the film can play along at home with the Universal NaturEffects TM app for iOS and Droid products, allowing them to experience the exact same disaster at home with the same intensity.
2012: The Live Movie Experience is currently under construction at the former site of Universal Studios Florida’s Soundstage 44, which previously hosted attractions themed to such Universal properties as “Hercules and Xena” and “Murder She Wrote.” The new attraction will open to the public for its first show on Dec. 21 and close with the rest of the resort immediately after.
